As in the two years previous, Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center invited all donors, supporters, friends and guests to our Third Annual "Welcome Home" Fundraising Gala which was held on Friday, November 1, 2019, at the amazing and historic downtown Chicago, Drake Hotel, once again, in their exquisite Gold Coast BallroomThis year's special guest speaker was Brian Cuban, an American attorney, author, speaker, activist; and an authority on drug addiction, drug rehabilitation, and alcoholism.

As in years before, it was a record-breaking, smashing success! Your overwhelming monetary support has allowed us to sustain our mission of providing the most effective and innovative behavioral health treatment to those facing addiction, homelessness, and poverty here in Chicago. Our clients work harder than they've ever worked just to keep their heads above water; it's a daunting task to do on their own with the deck stacked against them.

Guests attending the "Welcome Home" Gala, had the opportunity to meet some of our amazing clients who were interspersed amongst them. The difference you made in their lives was, and is, unparalleled and works to break generational cycles that move us all towards a better tomorrow. Your support makes this possible!

It was surely a fun and festive evening supporting an incredible cause and we encourage anyone who wishes to participate in helping us sustain ourselves in this way, to secure your seats early next year!

The event is scheduled for November 6th of 2020, and it looks to be our biggest, best, and MOST FUN YET!

This Is Who We Are

Our Second Annual Fundraising Gala

We did it! Thanks to the generous support of almost 300 attendees, the Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center exceeded our goal raising over $550,000 at our second annual gala in the Gold Coast Ballroom of the Drake Hotel held November 2, 2018. Supported by then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel and then-Governor Bruce Rauner, these funds helped to expand our mission by offering the most innovative, long-term, evidence-based and informed addiction recovery services to those who need it the most:

  • We can now help 950 additional clients
  • Produce 250 more graduates
  • Assist an additional 130 clients with housing/job placements

During the evening, Ryan Leaf shared his journey of addiction and recovery, and the three ideals that have attributed to his success: accountability, spirituality, and community. He expressed the importance, and necessity, of being a safe harbor for individuals struggling with addiction. He commented during his speech, “While Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center has created the lighthouse, you [donors] are a part of the community of rocks that set the foundation for this safe harbor.”

Thank you for choosing to be a part of the solution with your presence and gift(s). For those who could not make it, please consider attending next year’s gala (November 1st, 2019). We are sincerely grateful for your generous support and commitment to the Above and Beyond mission.

If you have not visited Above and Beyond, we encourage you to come experience the innovative and inspiring work for yourself. It’s free, it’s fast (usually in and out in under an hour), and it’s amazing! Schedule a tour by calling (773) 940-2960 and asking for our Executive Director, Dan, or by scheduling it directly on our website at

Thank you again for investing in saving the lives of real people who are gripped in life and death struggles with substance abuse. We look forward to you joining us at our next event!
